Erin N. Chapman, PhD, is a forensic anthropologist at the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office in Buffalo, New York. Prior to this appointment, she served as the Director of the Comparative Primate Anatomy Laboratory in the Department of Anthropology at SUNY-Buffalo for four years. Prior to her work at SUNY- Buffalo, Dr. Chapman spent five years as a Research Fellow and Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Applied Forensic Sciences at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania. She received her BA in Anthropology from Ohio University, her MS in Forensic and Biological Anthropology from Mercyhurst College (now Mercyhurst University), and an MA and PhD in Anthropology from SUNY-Buffalo. Dr. Chapman has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses on various topics related to anthropology and anatomy at Mercyhurst College, George Brown College, Hilbert College, and SUNY-Buffalo. Her research interests include skeletal trauma analysis, antemortem injuries in cases of child abuse, recovery and analysis of victims of fatal fires and mass fatalities and sex estimation from dentition. She has consulted for several agencies in the United States, co-authored numerous publications, and delivered professional presentations, lectures and workshops on variety topics.
